Q&A

Contrary to what many think, the term Remy represents a quality and not a brand of hair extensions. Remy quality hair is foremost 100% human hair. They don’t contain any synthetic fibers – the cuticle of this hair has been preserved and the scales are directed in the same direction. With Remy hair, you can be sure to have quality, silky extensions that won’t tangle over time. However, be careful! Many marketers claim to sell Remy hair, but this is a false representation.

To choose the right color for your extensions, please refer to the color that most resembles your hair lengths or tip. This way, you make sure you get the most natural look possible. If you want to color your natural hair soon, it’s best to choose your extensions once the color is done. If you’re still unsure of the right color choice to take, please contact us; it will be our pleasure to help you!

If you’re a beginner or unsure of your choice, you can start with clip-in extensions, as they’re suitable for all hair types.
However, if you prefer to get longer hair, there are three permanent techniques available to you: pre-bonded keratin extensions, I-tip extensions or tape-in extensions. To learn more about the different methods, see our specialties section, permanent or temporary hair extensions.

No! Hair extensions require some maintenance on the part of the customer. It’s essential to follow our recommendations on maintenance to the letter, if you want to keep your hair in good condition. Also, to avoid all these problems, it’s strongly suggested to work in close collaboration with a qualified and certified hair extension professional. In summary, if the extensions are well maintained and have been applied using a professional technique respecting your hair type, it’s unlikely that you will damage your natural hair.

For permanent techniques (I-tips, keratin or adhesive strips), you can refer to the table below. Note that our packages for these techniques all include 25 grams of hair:

CHEVEUX FINSCHEVEUX FINS À NORMAUXCHEVEUX ÉPAIS
EFFET DE COULEURS111
VOLUME SEULEMENT1 à 21 à 21 à 2
LONGUEUR VOLUME2 à 33 à 44 à 5

Yes and no! You can adjust the color of your extensions by coloring them with a soft tint to change the highlight or darken them. To do this, choose a color of extensions one tone lighter than the desired color. If you need to fade them, learn that you can’t bleach them. This chemical treatment will considerably damage your extensions and you won’t obtain the guaranteed result.

All our extensions, regardless of the technique used, take on a wavy shape (beach looks) when wet. On the other hand, if you want to stiffen them, they smooth out easily. So you get the best of both worlds by using our top quality hair extensions.

To create a natural look and be able to camouflage the attachment points correctly, tape-in or clips, it’s recommended to perform the installation on at least 6 inches of hair. Also note if your natural hair is short, the shorter your extensions will have to be if you want to obtain a natural result. The longer your hair grows, the more length you can afford to add.

HAIR EXTENSIONS CARE

  • It would be best to wait at least 48 hours (only for keratin extensions and tape-in extensions) before washing your hair after applying.
  • Use a moisturizing shampoo. It’s strongly recommended to use professional products. Never use fortifying, repairing or keratin-based shampoos to avoid damaging your extensions.
  • It isn’t advisable to use products that are too greasy (treatments, oils, conditioners or others) directly on the fixing points because of the risk of slipping or detachment. Especially for Tape-in: note that products that contain alcohol (fixative, mousse, gel, perfumes or others) can cause peeling or slipping besides damaging the keratin or even drying out your extensions considerably.
  • Avoid rubbing the extensions vigorously and always condition the ends.
  • Holding your head back, massage your scalp towards the ends, never in the opposite direction.
  • Always rinse your head back. Always gently rub between the scalp and the point of attachment to avoid tangling.
  • Preferably use a brush specially designed for extensions.
  • Hold the dryer about twenty centimeters away. It’s better not to dry the attachment points closely.
  • To untangle them, hold your hair at mid-length with your hand, then brush gently starting at the ends and gradually work your way up to your hairline. It’s also suggested to keep the attachment points stable by resting a hand on them when untangling. This will avoid creating tension at the root and thus promote detachment, or even loss of strands.
  • It’s strongly recommended that you always blow-dry your extensions so that they match your natural hair. They will also regain suppleness and shine.
  • Regularly pass your fingers between the scalp and the attachment points to separate the hair at the root.
  • Depending on the possibilities that your cut offers you, you can use the flat iron or the curling iron or work your extensions using a diffuser.
  • Brushing is essential! If you don’t brush them regularly, your extensions may tangle (just like your real hair). Brushing itself doesn’t pose any particular problem.
  • Brush your hair at least twice a day, morning and evening before going to bed.

At bedtime?

  • Always tie your hair up or make a braid so that your hair doesn’t get tangled while you sleep (especially in the case of long lengths).
  • Never sleep with wet hair and make sure your hair is completely dry before you go to bed.

Hobbies?

  • In the lakes, there is no problem. On the other hand, if you go to swimming pools or salty seas, it’s best not to get them wet. Sea salt and chlorine can significantly damage the extensions and damage the attachment points (keratin) and create detachments (tape-in).
  • Sunscreens and self-tanning creams can stain your extensions if you have blonde hair. Take care to tie up your hair correctly when using these products.

Sauna?

  • Be aware that if you frequent saunas, the life of your extensions may be shortened. Indeed, certain oils are used in steam baths and these directly attack the attachment points (keratin). Also note that the oil used during massages can also damage your extensions.

Don’t damage your hair uselessly by using an inappropriate technique, do business with your AB Extensions technician!

Never forget that extensions require more maintenance than natural hair. The lifespan of your extensions will depend on how well you care for them. Also, learn that what can damage your hair isn’t the extensions, but the way you maintain them.
